The British Computer Society and BCSNet: The Professional
Society and the Information Age
The British Computer Society can now be found on the Web at: http://www.bcs.org.uk/
It also now provides internet services, called BCSNet:
Aims of BCSNet
- for the use of electronic networking rapidly to become the norm for all kinds of
communication in the Society
- for the value of membership to be enhanced by providing access to electronic Bulletin
Boards connected to the Internet
- for it to be easier for those inside and outside the Society to obtain information on
its activities and views, via pages on the World Wide Web
What BCSNet offers the British Computer Society and its membership
- Low-cost immediate connectability on a worldwide basis
- Access to vast collections of information
- Easy to use interfaces, including text, images, sounds, etc.
- Ideal for distributed Specialist Group and Branch activity
In addition to the Web pages, BCSNet offers two related electronic access
mechanisms for all grades of BCS Member.
BCSNet.Lite, providing, for a one-off registration of £10 + VAT:
- an email address for life (while still a BCS Member)
- automatic mail forwarding to the account of your choice
- text-based Internet email gateway
- access to BCS electronic information
BCSNet.Gold, providing, for £25 + VAT registration, and a monthly fee
of £12.95 + VAT:
- all the services of BCSNet.Lite
- fully supported and licensed software to provide full Internet access, including news,
WWW, and email
- 500K of personal space on the BCS server for your own Web pages or FTP archive
